I've recently started looking into doTerra Essential Oils because my husband who thinks I'm a witchdoctor when it comes to medicine and health expressed an interest having tried them himself and asked me if I would look into the details for him to see if we were interested.
I must say I find myself impressed even after going in as somewhat of a skeptic who doesn't put much stock in essential oils apart from the one that I have experience with called Sunbreeze by Sunrider. In my experience, essential oils don't work for everybody and the people that are sold on them always seem to have really wierd ideas and seem a little too natural to me. I have some very dear to my heart witchdoctors in my life that have tried everything under the sun for natural remedies and they have never put much stock in essential oils so I guess you can see where my feelings on those are. Furthermore, doTerra claims to be a "higher grade" product and that's why they're more expensive than other essential oils companies. Everybody knows that companies that claim to be higher grade and worth more are often too good to be true. Few people can afford to actually try other companies to compare to be able to say whether the increased quality is actually worth it or not. I expected to go through the routine of listening to someone's marketing spiel and looking at products and come out with a headache from all the fumes in the room convinced that oils never have been and still really aren't my cup of herbal tea,.....so to speak. When we visited with my friends, I listened politely,.. I even got to try a few things and smell some of them. After sitting down and meeting, I was convinced I was never going to put much stock in this but hey,.. if it makes hubby ease up a little bit on the other witch-doctory products that I use I guess I'm willing to indulge him a little bit and try out something he is interested in. Afterall....I know full well that if I don't really get that into the details he's never really going to get that into it either and the interest will eventually die off.
Here's where I find myself surprised,...and my friends probably have no idea what they did right, but there were 3 things that are making the difference for me a half a week later. First of all, they queried us about things we were worried about health wise and gave us small vial samples to take home with us and try that would treat those specific things. Second, they let us borrow a copy of the reference book that you can get from doTerra to take home and look through as we decide. Third, the products are actually visibly working,...that's right,..we didn't actually go out and cut ourselves like my friend suggested,..(she was only half teasing),..but circumstances have it that we've had some opportunities immediately after the presentation to try out the samples we were given and they're actually working. So the genius is,... they made me think of some things I'm really worried about and gave me actual product to try on it... If doTerra didn't have a reference book of uses for the oils,..I know I would just buy a kit of oils and never know what to use it for and then never really use them....If I didn't get a chance to look through the book and see how I would actually use it I would still be apprehensive about buying oils I didn't think I would end up using,...finally they actually stumbled on a product that seems to work. Products that can speak for themselves will always succeed with me...I'm a sucker I know. I say stumbled only because they don't strike me as people who originally got into natural remedies very much. You know the type. There's those people that try every natural remedy they get wind of and praise it to the skies as the miracle cure when you know full well that they live so healthily that you have serious doubts about whether they even get any of the problems you seem to have on a regular basis to begin with and your attempts to try the same remedies often do not meet up to those same praises. These friends seem more to have been in the right place at the right time to try out something new that they were astounded works and have been converted ever since. I know sometimes that distinction is a fine line but I don't think I'm misreading these friends they do not strike me as health nuts to begin with but you never can tell.
Anyway,.. what's the point of this whole post!? I find myself seriously considering trying out these products because if they're working I really want to keep using them. I guess I just want to hear from anybody out there who has tried these oils and thinks they're worth it. I'd also like to hear from anybody who has tried both doTerra and any other brand of oils and prefers their other brand over doTerra.
My regular blog readers feel free to comment however you like,.... I'm open to hearing your opinions regardless. I promise not to feel offended if you think I'm a crazy witchdoctor too. As I mentioned my husband has that opinion and I still love him so chances are I'll still love you too even if we have very different views about healthcare. Most likely the reason I like you has nothing to do with your personal opinions on healthcare. :)

new goal: shopping more to spend less
I'm making a new goal. I would like to go shopping more often so that I can buy less and gain more!
problem:
I never go shopping because it always takes a lot of time.
When I do go shopping I know I'm not going again for a while so I spend a lot of time finding a lot of things that I really like.
When I get to the register I always feel like I spent too much money and wish I could part with some of the things I really like that I'm mostly getting because I needed to get a certain number of shirts or pants as the "goal" of my shopping trip.
solution:
1. shop more often but buy less.
2. only buy things I "love".
3. spend less time in a single trip shopping
4. spend less money in a single trip shopping
This solution makes it so that I have less buyers remorse. I know more what's available at the store. I feel less guilt buying something cause I'm not spending 100's of dollars every time I do make a purchase. I'm not as prone to buy something I only "really like" because I know I'm going shopping again next week and if I really need it I can get it then. I really only add clothes to my wardrobe that I was really drawn to and couldn't pass up because there's no way I can buy everything I see that I like if I'm going to the store every week. or at least monthly or whatever my frequency ends up being. Anyway,.. I think this solution would really solve the problems I'm having with shopping right now and will allow me to get a few new things in my wardrobe without breaking the bank or feeling like my shopping efforts are too expensive, not frequent enough (little1 needs new clothes more often than I do), or too little productive (got several things I needed but only really love 2 or 3 of them).
What are your experiences with shopping? any tips?

Tired of Allowing others to Undervalue my Skills
I'm really tired of allowing other people to undervalue my skills and abilities. Part of it is probably a reflection of what my own thoughts are. To some extent,..I undervalue my own skills and abilities. I think because I don't have what looks good on paper that I don't have the abilities. However, right now I don't think that's the case. I'm bursting with development potential,..I can feel my development skills simmering and boiling under the surface anxious to bust out and prove it to someone that I really have them,... So why am I still getting the rejection from employers?
Furthermore,..why am I still taking it? To some extent it's my fault if an employer has no idea what I'm capable of or what my skills and abilities are. If they don't have an idea then I didn't communicate it to them,... I guess I'm just realizing that I'm giving them too much power to reject me and too few reasons why they shouldn't. So I'm putting a stop to it. I'm going to start sticking up for myself and selling my skills and abilities. I'm going to stop undervaluing the training and experience that I do have and start marketing myself so that I can find success in the career direction that I would like to go. I will stop asking employers to take a chance on me and start expecting them to consider me as a serious candidate. I will find employment in a position that will add to my skills and abilities in the career path that I wish to pursue. I'm not settling anymore for a career path that does not align with my potential and desire to work in software development. I'm not begging people to employ me. I know that I can add value to their team and their project and so it is my task to convince them of the same. I know it's only taken me 5 or 6 years to crawl out of my self-defeating self-pitying self-apologizing state that I've been in since graduating from college but I'm done with it. No more mrs weak girl for me. I'm taking charge of my life and I'm making changes and I am now appreciating myself, my skills, my training, and the value that I have to offer whoever the lucky employer ends up being that hires me. I just have to take this time to apologize to all the other employers that I didn't successfully communicate with. Many missed out because I didn't show up. Here I am world. Hire me.

Quick Ducky Update
I'm pleased to report that Ducky has new growth! a new leaf growing. This is good news. It means that we're no longer in survival mode and that ducky is progressing. She'll soon be strong enough that I can take a clipping and there will be 2 stems for ducky to grow from and flourish. This all feels very slow going but I'm encouraged. I wasn't sure I was going to be able to save her this time but I'm feeling a bit of hope this week. Go ducky!! grow grow grow!
Happy 4th of July!
It's that magical time of year with lots of excitement and pizazz! Always a big holiday this time of year around my house. I have fond memories of family bbqs and swim parties, flag ceremonies, patriotic musical tribute firesides, homemade rootbeer, homemade strawberry pecan ice cream, and strawberry cream cheese pie just to name a few.
I am always "Last Minute Lucy" when it comes to these holidays and my callings. I realized late last night that I wanted to do something patriotic to mark the occasion for my primary kids. Apart from my traditional red white and blue attire to commemorate the occasion I came up with the idea of making some "firecrackers" that contained the songs we were going to sing for singing time. It was a hit. The fireworks looked awesome and the older kids even had a great time exploding their own firecracker when it was their turn to pick.
I just used some red and blue scrapbooking papers that I had lying around and made up a firework shaped container that I put squiggly papers into them one of which had the name and page number of the song to be sung. It took forever and my fingers are a little sore but I think it was worth it. Hopefully if I'm still music leader next year these will last another year and come in handy again. I should probably go put them away in a safer place. Anyway. they turned out cute. Here's a picture.

Book Characters and your Imagination
I've decided it's not a good idea to envision the characters in books your reading to look like people you actually know. Sometimes it becomes hard to separate the character from the actual person you see in real life.
I've done this on 2 occasions in my life. Once was when I was reading "Tennis Shoes Among the Nephites". I envisioned Marcus the dashing son of the evil Jacob who later turns good and ends up marrying one of the characters in a later book to look an awful lot like my lab partner in Chemistry. I don't know that we were partners exactly, but my partner, let's call him Miguel, came across to me as somewhat more charming than he actually was and I had a little bit of a crush on him. He was nice and everything but lets face it. The only reason I was romanticizing about him at all was because I spent hours reading about Marcus that looked an awful lot like him but of course with a few improvements in physique etc,...and I imagined myself attracted to him in the book so of course when I saw him in person and we interracted on a friendly manner I had a hard time disconnecting the Marcus from my book from Miguel who I got to interract with on a daily basis.
This little mix up of reality only lasted a short while right? no big deal...
So why did I do it again? I now find myself feeling somewhat protective at times like Katniss in the Hunger games when I interract with or about my coworker who happens to look an awful lot like Peeta from the same. At least I have the good sense not to feel romantic or anything about this guy seeing as I'm married and really not interested in changing that situation in the slightest,...but still. It's strange to feel attached to someone I barely know and don't even get along with too terribly well all because my brain decided he looked a lot like the description of Peeta in the Hunger Games so it wasn't much of a stretch for my brain to transform Peeta into the visage of this coworker.....
Come on brain! don't you see how this is obviously throwing me curve balls mixing reality with fiction?

Ducky Update: to the rescue again!
For some of you that follow my private blog you might remember back in the beginning of 2008 that I inherited a plant from a coworker and promptly took on the task of rehabilitating her since she was in sad condition and in desperate need of some TLC. I named her Ducky. Here she is in all of her rehabilitated glory. I took clippings and created new sprouts so that she looked fairly respectable I think.
We had some time together for which I was grateful and she brightened my day most of the time. I got pregnant and we had our first baby so I relocated ducky to her original owner shortly before I left on maternity leave so that she could be taken care of. I wasn't sure how long I would be out of the office for.
Recently when I took on a new position I discovered that Ducky had been abandoned in a move and nobody was looking after her. I felt bad but since I wasn't working at my main office very much I didn't feel I could give her the care she needed so I ignored her. She was already in this state by then. Utterly unloved and hardly cared for. I can watch no longer and so I begin the Ducky rescue project once again. Here is how she was after I picked her abandoned self up today and moved her to my desk. I removed a few of the dead husks and leaves and the lone stem that remains fighting for life is what I have to work with now. We'll do our best. Quite frankly I'm not sure how much I'm going to be able to do for her in just a few short months but I hope that I'll be able to restore her back to her former glory because she deserves better than I gave her when I handed her over. Goodluck Ducky! We're rooting for you.

Boys don't understand anything about being a girl!
Boys don't understand anything about being a girl. It's a little frustrating sometimes.
I told my husband, "Look! I got a positive pregnancy test!".
Husband responds, "Really!? That's great! are you sure?"
my response, "Yep!,.. well technically I haven't even missed a period yet but a false positive is really uncommon especially on 2 pregnancy tests!"
my response, "Let's tell people"
Husband reaction, "Are you sure? if there's one thing I've learned is better to be sure than to jump the gun"
my response, "The only way we could not be pregnant at this point is if something goes wrong like I miscarry or have a molor pregnancy or placenta previa or something of that nature at which point I'll be in the hospital and everybody will know something is up anyway so we might as well tell people and be happy about it until it actually occurs that something goes wrong."
...... 1 week later....
husband asks, "Hey can you take a pregnancy test sometime soon when you've for sure missed your period and there's no chance you're wrong?"
my response, "again? ... I took it only 2 days early last time which for most people is not even considered early!!"
husband response, "Humor me please? I just want to be sure"
my response "(... !!!!???!!!!! @@@ !!!???? .... ....) .... sure babe. "
You think you've explained how it works. You think you've explained the risks and possibilities. You think they know as much as you do but lets face it. Unless they've done their own research their only response is going to be to whatever information you casually give cause they haven't looked anything up on their own. (at least that is not my husband's nature,....but maybe yours is more interested in diving into the details of child development and the processes of the female body) He has a vested interest but he'd rather remain ignorant of the gory details as much as possible because they're,.. well,.. gory. So he relies on my discretion to fill him in without grossing him out most of the time. I think most men are probably in a similar boat but I don't know. At any rate. Girls if you're recently acquiring a man be prepared to be the liason between what's going on with you and what he knows about it. Most likely he's clueless and wants to know,..but doesn't. Be prepared to have what you consider to be straight forward information questioned if you casually shed any kind of doubt on the situation by inadvertent comments like,... "technically I haven't even missed my period yet,.". etc. etc. etc... somebody checked out after that first statement of what they considered to be doubt.
Lol. This sounds like a really frustrated post. I mostly just thought it was funny and sort of a self-inspection about how I bring this stuff on myself. lol. :) It's obvious that omitting some of the details and sticking with the more bold self-assured statements would have done the trick to avoid confusion.

Last Minute Janet
Why does my family always do this? I have to sing in church tomorrow and I am barely prepared. I decided a long time ago that my brother and I would sing the song. I didn't let him know for sure until last week that I wanted him to. My mom never committed to playing for me until this last week and my brother and I finally scrambled together to try and learn it last Sunday without an accompaniest. We're always waiting until the last minute to pull these things together and it always always always comes together but gee sometimes I wish we didn't leave ourselves stranded until the last minute like this.
Hope my knees stop knocking and it comes off ok. I'm sure it will all be good. We're singing an arrangement of I wonder when he comes again. It's going to be great!

Songs Plan
I just finished my 3 month songs plan today and gosh it's tough to learn songs in such a short time. We have to get certain songs learned in 1 month. I got Half of a 1 verse song learned today. Half! Man sometimes I just feel like I've got my work cut out for me. Looking at some of the song's we've got coming up like praise to the man,.. I just don't know how these kids do it. One thing I've come to realize is that I really need to memorize these songs. The kids need to be able to see me sing the words otherwise they lose it,.. or at least that's my perception that the floor drops out from under us whenever I start singing the wrong words. :)
The main thing I wanted to bring up though was the notion of singing the songs that the kids already know. When I was in primary, seems like we just sang whatever songs the primary chorister wanted us to sing and if we didn't know it we picked it up as we went. Seems like all the big kids knew all the songs already and we little kids just figured it out. I remember learning new songs.. (I guess it was for the primary program) but most of the time we just learned them to learn them I thought and then we picked the ones we learned and a couple of the ones we already knew for the program. Anyway,.. I just don't remember that we only sang songs we already knew. Some of the smaller easy ones we just sang and got used to even if we didn't know them they were short and easy enough and you could listen and watch the chorister for the words if you didn't know them I guess. Maybe I'm just wrong.

Hunger Games
Ok I was really apprehensive about starting this series because the whole concept really sickened me a bit when I first heard about these books. I got them for Christmas though so I was feeling some pressure to finally read them.
It's interesting...for a very violent book they sure treat the subject material tactfully I think so that it's not gory. I'm still bothered by the whole premise of the book and it really maddens me what they're doing to these districts in the book. (I'm only halfway through the first book,..started last night way later than I should have ever started a book) At any rate I find myself really enjoying the story even though I hate what's going on. I can't wait to get back home and do some more reading tonight. I'm almost angry at myself though for liking this book. I was prepared to be sickened by it,.. and I was right I am,... I was not prepared to be caught up in the story,.. even though I had heard that I would probably end up liking it etc. so,.. I never thought I would have a love-dislike relationship with a book or series like I do with this one. One thing that bugs me though,... what's with the love triangle,..?,..that's wierd. Just stick to simple love relationships,..I hate when people complicate these things. That's one of the reasons I hate Pearl Harbor the movie.
Fablehaven!! I loved this series. Intriguing! fun! witty!exciting! some things were predictable but a lot was unexpected. I loved that it was a good clean children's book. I'm a little annoyed that the heroine was so young so that the book only ended with her looking forward to a future relationship with her love interest. However, I'm thrilled that the author decided to keep things g-rated especially considering how young the heroine is! That's what I get for being an adult reading a fun children's book! I hope they eventually grow up and end up together at the end, but the author does a great job of keeping the book at the age level of the heroine who should appeal to other kids their age. I love that it didn't get too grown up for the age group I think the book was targeted for but there was still enough excitement and interest that I remained engaged as an adult. anyway,... what a great series! The only thing is that I wish they tied up the lose end with Seth's quest at the end but oh well.. at least they said he'd have help and so it implied that of course it was going to go fine and I guess I really wasn't that worried.....I also wish they took you back to visit coulter but I guess that's fine too.
It's been a while since I've read some good book series. Love this,... Hope my husband forgives me sometime for all the time of our lives that I waste getting deeply involved in these books and neglecting everything else until I'm through with them.

The Latest! Conferences
Last week was my first time as Primary Chorister. It was both great and horrible at the same time! I loved being in primary with all of the sweet little kids. However, I know it takes time for them to adjust to new leaders especially if they are not as loud, tall or commanding in presence. Once really great moment though that I had a lot of fun with. Senior primary was especially being difficult. They were roudy and talkative etc etc.... at once point there were 3 boys on the back row who almost never pay attention and make smart answers whenever you call on them to participate and just generally rile everyone up....and they made a special request that the song we were about to sing could be sung by kids only no leaders. So I made a deal,... they could on once condition that if they didn't sing well we'd have to sing it twice. 2nd time with teachers. Well,... the primary did amazing! they all sang really well and were paying such great attention. However, those 3 boys sat in the back and talked to themselves and didn't pay attention at all. You can understand my frustration at them that everyone else did so great but they completely ignored the song. So a genius idea popped into my head and at the end of the song I praised the primary for how well they did and then,... just when they thought they were off the hook I said,... but.... I didn't hear you 3 sing at all....how about we have them sing a solo up front for everyone! ...the primary loved it,... the boys came up front and barely sang at all by themselves but they made an effort and I hope I got my point across even if it did make everyone a little bit roudy because of it. anyway,... it was fun. I'm sure it will get better with time.
It's conference time again for the LDS Church. twice a year we have a 2 day broad cast conference in which selected leaders prepare talks about the principles we believe in and give counsel to the member of the church about what we need to work on. I always love conference time because I am always uplifted to hear from these leaders and I always find something in each talk that I can work on to be a little bit better at during the next 6 months and it really just helps me to be a better person as I work on these things. If you're curious to see what any of it is about feel free to peek in on it. The conference sessions are today and tomorrow. 10am and 2pm MST. there are 4 2-hour sessions with several speakers in each.
Right before conference, my work also holds a special community developer's conference that I love going to. I went last year and got a special opportunity to hear from Elder Bednar in person. That discussion was very inspiring and I learned a lot and came away form that meeting super ready to listen to conference the next couple days. This year we got to have a presentation from the descendants of the Hyrum Smith family who brought artifacts from the Prophet Joseph Smith's life and from Hyrum and Joseph's Martyrdom at Carthage Jail. It was very touching to learn more about the family and religious life of these individuals and the women in their lives and to reconnect with the events of the martyrdom and the sacrifice that they made for the gospel of Jesus Christ. I'm so glad I was able to attend.
Does your daughter get into Daddy's stuff all the time like mine does? grrr! I can't keep her away from it.

bitter sweet
I'm feeling very bitter sweet today. I was released from my calling as activity days leader. Part of me is very sad because I was just getting the hang of my calling and I really love my girls though they were all going to be turning 9 shortly anyway and leaving my class so I guess that's ok. I was called as the Primary Chorister. Knees are definitely shaking a little bit here. This has got to be the most scary calling for me that I have had yet to date. Primary Secretary, substitute primary pianist, ctr5 teacher, ward music chair, ward choir pianist, ward activities chair, visiting teaching supervisor, young women's miamaid advisor, sunday school teacher...etc, etc, etc,... all of these pale in comparison to me because they don't require that I come up with ideas how to teach 20+ kids all at once how to sing commanding their attention and entertaining them for 15-20 mins 2 times once a week. On the up side. I get to see my activities days girls more often cause now they're in primary with me every week instead of at my home just 2 times a month. I know that I'm plenty qualified for this calling and have watched as people with much less musical ability than me have tackled it and succeeded with flying colors,..I even know that I will do a great job and this will be a good calling for me. However, I have never felt as intimidated of a calling as I do right now. I'm sure this is going to be small potatoes to me sometime down the road but at this moment I've never had a calling that was responsible for so many children at once or demanded that the bowels of creativity be shaken quite so frequently as weekly. I also have big shoes to fill as Sister L. in my ward has done an amazing job in the past and I love and have loved being in singing time with her in primary weekly. I'm also certain that Sister B. who I have not had the opportunity to see teach was equally effective at commanding the kids' attention. I'm a little afraid that my quiet ways will come across as timid or afraid but I'm equally sure that my inner animation will take over and we'll just be one big happy group of kids singing and learning songs together and I'll soon forget my trepidation. At any rate. Wish me luck!
Now for the sweet. I just finished enjoying some fruits of my labor. Did I ever mention how much I LOVE LOVE LOVE cooking? I don't think I have. I particularly have a passion for good food and for being able to cook something from scratch with my own two hands and some meager ingredients. I purchased a whole cut chicken this weekend and proceeded to make slow cooker chicken soup. I love the Nourished Kitchen blog and was intrigued when I saw this recipe for chicken soup and I suddenly really wanted some. I finished eating some of it for lunch and it was so heavenly. I love eating wholesome old school recipes like this even if I have to occasionally eat a piece of bone that I missed that disintegrated in my mouth before I had a chance to realize I'd eaten it because I missed it when I picked all the bones out of the chicken and broth before making my soup. I feel sooo good. I can't really think of a better way to describe how this kind of food makes me feel. empowered,...skilled,.. nunchuck skills, computer-hacking skills,..bow hunting skills,.. ok ok. let's not get carried away. I also had a piece of my fudgy brownies that I made from scratch out of the better homes cook book. Didn't leave home without it. They were soooo nummy. I know I'm making you all jealous. And speaking of Scratch. If any of you are food connoisseurs you should check out my friend Lillian's blog called scratch-eats. She is an amazing cook and I'm expecting awesome things from her new cooking blog. Something else from the nourished kitchen that I can't wait to try are these potato chips. Anyone who knows me knows I love potato chips and I think these sound so good except I can't stomach the thought of lard. I have an aversion to it which is why I think the country has turned away from it's use in the first place. anyway I digress. I love food.

1$ 5-day Dressing Your Truth Trial
If you've ever been interested in Dressing Your Truth today is your lucky day. Carol is doing a 1$ dressing your truth 5-day Trial!! You have to cancel it before the 5 days are up if you don't want to keep it. Also, if you decide later that you got the wrong type, you can write support and they should let you change it. If you don't know what your type is, ask me and I'll give you my first gut reaction but you're the only person that can know for sure. I am definitely not an expert and I'm only willing to help in this specific situation because I want you to get the trial quickly.
Link to the 1$ Dressing Your Truth course 5-day Trial
Here's my secondary motive for wanting you to get the trial TODAY! Tonight is club night exclusively for Dressing Your Truth course members only. I am super excited because they asked me to participate tonight as a Type 2 guinea pig for tonight's topic. They'll use me to demonstrate the principle they're teaching tonight and I get to share some of my thoughts on the subject. If you get the trial before 7pm MST tonight you can join me live at the Center for Living Your Truth or watch online from the comfort of your own home. What have you got to lose? you get to see what it is I'm crazy about and whether you are interested or not and you get to join me tonight at one of the highlights of my month,.. my Girl's Night Out so to speak. I hope that if you have ever been interested in this and wanted to know more that you'll take a peak and see what it's all about. See ya later!

13th Article of Faith Collages
OK I totally forgot to take pictures of the collages before the girls left. My bad. This was how it looked right before I cleaned up.
We had 3 girls show up tonight. This activity is from the Preparing for Young Women's Section where the girls are supposed to learn about the 13th article of faith and make lists of things that are virtuous lovely or of good report or praiseworthy and then discuss with a teacher or parent how to seek after them.
yes I know I forgot to actually write "Indeed we may say we follow the admonition of Paul: we believe all things,..." I thought it but I was hurriedly writing while the girls were watching me so my brain skipped it since I already said it in my head. So for the first half of the hour we discussed what the article of faith meant. If you have an adoreable 2 year old I suggest getting a babysitter as there were plenty of distractions happening during this time and it was occasionally difficult to stay focused. I found that the girls didn't know more than 1 of the main words in the article so we went over each phrase in the article of faith and discussed what the words and phrases meant. Then once we got through it and I emphasized what it meant to seek after something that we want to surround ourselves with that thing or do things that fall into those categories or what have you then we got down to the nitty gritty and started making our collages!I rummaged through barnes and noble and bought a couple of kids/parent magazines, health magazine, and I even threw in an old ensign at the end that they could cut things from. I figured if we have to make a list what more fun than making a collage of pictures. I'm a visual person. We wrote the words "We seek after these things" on the paper and then surrounded the words with pictures. It was fun.
I did find that I had to monitor what the girls were cutting out and challenge them to find one of each kind of thing and to identify how every single thing they cut out was either virtuous, lovely, or of good report (yields good results or attributes), or praiseworthy (requiring a lot of work to accomplish something great). I also intentionally avoided getting magazines that had things like Justin Beiber in them. I was really tempted to get a justin beiber magazine but since one of my girls is particularly afflicted with "beiber fever" and gets pretty disruptive, I decided to stick with more wholesome less worldly magazines since I really wanted this to be a more spiritual learning activity. I think it turned out well and I think the girls had a good time and while they didn't completely grasp what the words meant they got the general idea I think. Until Next time. Hope you enjoyed my activity idea. waiting,..waiting,..waiting,..
for my tax return to be deposited!!
I think this year has taken the longest yet to get my tax return deposited to my bank. I'm so anxious cause I really want to use it to get some power outlets in our home repaired so that we can finally have power in our house in the bathrooms! and our bedroom. hallelujah! I will be dancin a jig when this is finally fixed....not to mention having power in the garage finally and on the outside of the house. We've been waiting a very,..very,.. very long time for this to get fixed.
I'm half tempted to put the rest of it towards some home improvements like a sprinkler system or replacing the hot water heater or roof, but It's probably better to pay off some debts so that when we have problems on our roof or hot water heater we're not digging ourselves deeper.
at any rate,... Why oh Why!! is the government taking so long to deposit my money. I've been ever so patient,... I've waited for at least a week! hahahahaha,... oh the woes of modern conveniences. We expect everything to be so zippy fast these days that a week and a half seems like an eternity. haha.
In other news. Stay tuned for my next post on Activity Days tonight. Hopefully I can find some magazines with things in them that 8 year old girls like for a collage. Mr. Stressa (Hope my friend SnickerdoodleSteph doesn't mind me copying her in referring to my hubby this way)... Mr. Stressa has graciously offered to let me use his car and motorcycle magazines of which he has plenty! (there's advertisements in there that they would like right?),... somehow I just don't think that's quite going to cut it. These girls are into Justin Beber!! Not Justin Barcia!!

Activity Days: Hair Accessories!
I've been promising my girls that we would do another craft but I keep getting caught unprepared and so we've put it off. I finally got my act together and came up with this fun Hair Accessories craft. The idea is that they make hair accessories from mostly odds and ends and then "display" them afterward by wearing them with an outfit to school or something. This was an activity for "Developing Talents" the part about making a craft and displaying it.
The girls had a blast and I was super surprised (as I knew I would be) with what they came up with.
I prepared by getting several scraps of fun and random exciting ribbons (you know the crazy fun oddball ones that you wish you could get away with putting on an outfit but wouldn't dare actually wear somewhere), a cute colored feather boa (for the feathers), flowers, clips, headbands, hair ties, and even fat quarters scraps of fabric from the quilting fabric store.
We used glue guns to attach the ribbons, fabrics, and flowers to the clips, and headbands. The hair ties didn't work out because I got a really small size and nobody was sure how to really attach it anyway so we sort of scrapped that one.
The girls began pulling the flowers apart and combining different colors of petals to create multi-colored flowers. Some girls attached feathers to the sides of their headbands to add style. One of the girls actually made a sort of veil out of hers with some really flowy ribbon and fabric scraps with some drapey flowers running along the sides sorta like princess leia or something it turned out super cute. They had a lot of fun creating something from their own ideas and were pleased with what they came up with. Some of the girls even turned it into a bit of service as they were making some of the bows for younger siblings rather than themselves.
You'd think that this little stinker got into my supplies but in truth she was mostly out of the picture during all the action. I was manning the hot glue gun the entire time since most of the girls were afraid of getting burned and so the chaos ensued free to leash itself upon my living room inflicted by those crazy enthusiastic girls while they worked on their projects.
We had a good time and I keep thinking how am I ever going to keep coming up with these fun activities. One of these days I'm going to run out and these girls are going to get sick of having "lesson" activities. Until next week's activity days activity then. See ya.

Activity Days
I've been promising my activity days girls a fun craft activity and I'm finally going to do one. We're going to make Hair clips! How fun. I need to get the stuff on saturday so that I'm prepared but I'm just going to get the materials and then let the girls have at it. I'll have to post some of the finish products on here when we're done.
I have this philosophy about crafts and I think it serves the girls best when you give them tools but let them create on their own. Some of the girls will start out copying each other but when you don't set the activity to a limited style you'll be amazed at what wonderful things they come up with. I remember kind of hating unstructured activities like this when I was younger cause I usually took a little bit longer to make a plan for what I wanted to do than some of the other girls did, but I think regardless in the end, the style that you come up with is much more individual than it otherwise would be. It's a growing opportunity right and we do better when we learn from growing opportunities than when we're handed ideas on a platter. I'm excited and I can't wait to see what the girls come up with. I have the 8 and 9 year old girls I think.

Dressing Your Truth Club Night
I'm excited to view the Dressing Your Truth Club Night tonight. I have purchased the Dressing Your Truth online course in addition to the Beauty Profile Bundle and have been dressing my truth for almost 4 months now. The difference knowing this information has made in my life is amazing. I am a soft subtle woman and I have never allowed myself to just be me over the years until I understood this information. I was always trying to be more of something else and judging myself as not good enough or pretty enough.
You know,.. I wasn't one of those kind of girls who spends hours in the morning getting ready for the day. Or the girl who went out for every sport and excelled at all of them all while balancing an extremely successful career. Or the life of the party who knew everybody and everybody knew them... (admittedly I wanted to be the life of the party and I certainly knew everybody but it was all too rare that those same people knew who I was) I wasn't the girl who was super crafty or endlessly serving others. You all know the types we all compare ourselves too.
Now having said that I certainly was not depressed or down on myself at all. I did just enough crafts to consider myself an aspiring crafter. Sure I'll play a sport if you ask me to just as long as we both understand it's for fun and don't expect me to be competitive. I got by with who I was but what do you tell yourself when people suggest that you're one of the slowest people they've ever met? Or when you take about 3 minutes to assess that your house is going to burn down and review the plan for such situations of getting out the nearby fire extinguisher to use and figuring out how to use it...meanwhile your husband has time to get out of the bathroom and come downstairs and put out the fire in about 2 seconds by dousing it with a nearby pot of water. I'm not saying that I was unhappy being me but I certainly judged some of my tendencies and personality quirks that often caused tension in my marriage and other important relationships including work. Now that I understand myself better and my tendencies I am so much happier being me and content with myself and instead of judging those quirks I figure out how to temper or use them to my advantage to make my life and marriage happier. My other relationships with friends/family and coworkers are improving as well because I can honor those people for who they are too.
On top of all of that!,... I was never the girl to take hours to get ready in the morning...after taking the Dressing Your Truth course it is sooo easy to accessorize and do make up and hair that I get up and do it every morning and my friends and family all have noticed how much more beautiful I am and how much happier I have become. I'm not trying to turn this into an advertisement here but I just wanted to share how much this information has increased my happiness and self-worth and how liberated I feel to be myself and dress exactly the way I want to be without judging my look or trying to copy anybody else. I love the information I've found and the new self-confidence that I enjoy and if you're looking for something like this in your life check out my links and try it for yourself. You won't regret it!
Now back to the whole point of this post. Club night! I love going to club nights because they really keep the information new and keep you excited and constantly refining your style and your skills. I would never stick with this information if it wasn't for the constant opportunities to review it and to learn more. It's so fun to see everyone dressed beautifully and having a fun time together and learning more and more about the information. If you ever decide to get the Dressing Your Truth course you will most likely look forward to club nights every month like I do where Carol presents a topic of interest and gives tips for how to refine that part of your style. Plus I get the opportunity to meet up with some of the friends I've made there who are also dressing their truth. I love it and I can't wait for tonight!
